Ambivalence is a photographic documentation of Ohio animal cemeteries that is meant to provoke a feeling of ambivalence in the viewer. Raised in the Catholic faith, I am both drawn to and unsettled by the presence of votive candles and crosses in these spaces. As a Catholic and the mother of a furry companion, I find myself caught between fascination and discomfort, and the work lingers in that tension.

Ambivalence est un document photographique de cimetières d’animaux de l’Ohio qui cherche à susciter un sentiment d’ambivalence chez le regardeur. Élevée dans la foi catholique, je suis à la fois attirée et troublée par la présence de cierges votifs et de croix dans ces lieux. En tant que catholique et mère d’un compagnon à fourrure, je me retrouve prise entre fascination et malaise, et l’œuvre s’attarde dans cette tension.
